I find Althia Raj’s uncharacteristic bitterness towards the Carney government baffling.

Agree. She has exchanged balance for bitterness. Maybe not a surprise given her connection to Rosie Barton and Andrew Coyne.

It does feel like something personal crossing her professional lines.

Maybe the constant negativity and suspicion about Carney's "real agenda" reflects their sources too - I suspect there is an anti-Carney group within the caucus/staff who resent his takeover of the party they consider theirs, who don't dare to say anything much publicly but who talk to journalists on background.

This is no time for Frenemies that slowly erode the strength of unity which is critical to our success at this time. We need trust and courage to take necessary calculated risks. We need valid critique not fearful imaginations.

The border bill is borderline draconian with its information demand powers. It sets a dangerous precedent allowing law enforcement access to practically all service providers. Any future government could also abuse this power. Mr. Carney’s decision to sneak this provision into C2 is disheartening at best.

I don't agree that simply stating that all options are on the table would imply including provisions that have previously been considered unconstitutional or abrogate the power of Parliament. Even if that was implied, is it not the role of the press to assess the appropriateness of the powers selected?

It is but the role of the press is to do so with journalistic standards. That doesn’t include oozing bitter condemnation. There are journalists who effectively state the facts and address concerning issues without the dramatic presentation. Raj has left that zone lately.

In case you haven’t noticed - the vast majority of Canada’s “press” are heavily subsidized by our Liberal government. You don’t bite the hand that feeds you. The rest will be muted soon enough. After all - it’s for the common good you know. Elbows up. 😉

You are absolutely right Evan. PM Mark Carney has not betrayed anyone. He is doing exactly as he wrote in his book

“Value(s) Building a Better World for All” and in what he said on the election campaign. Moving Canada to a Net Zero economy, away from the U.S. and more aligned with the EU. He has already started to implement this agenda in his short time as PM:

- more money for war in Ukraine

- hard stop ban on non-EV vehicle sales within 10 years

- more powers for the federal government to decide on projects

- parliament shut down again until late September

- no budget

- today’s announcement of a new DIGITAL, Defense, and Economic partnership signed with the EU. (Ask the Chinese what digital means)

Still posting this while I still can. Elbows up! 🇨🇦

Was Nate fired though? Really? Or did his temporary post not renew?

Jon Stewart called the GOP the "party of NO," which aligns with the noxious CPC narrative, aptly described as "braying intransigence."

Since Poilievre is the master of this and has vilified Trudeau and the Liberals relentlessly, it has definitely taken over our political discourse, but what's interesting is how unaware most people seem to be of that marked deterioration to the extent that the yawning chasm that has absolutely and deliberately been CREATED by the cons is often described as some random phenomenon we've all been afflicted with, like a spate of bad weather!

Who knew so many of us are SO easily led by repetition, despite how nasty and unfounded it is? To provide context and contrast, what is the LIBERAL narrative?

So we watch Trump and his "Craig's list" staff wreaking havoc, knowing full well that the CPC is similar ENOUGH that we have absolutely dodged a bullet, but STILL knee-jerk insist that the Liberals and Mark Carney are the bad-faith actors here!

Heather McPherson even called him "King Carney" FFS, so it's no surprise to hear that not ALL the NDP voters automatically went Liberal as fellow progressives; some also voted CONSERVATIVE.
