The thing I am noticing is that Carney will NOT tolerate being disrespected, and I am so ready for a leader like this - Trudeau's attitude of letting insults just fall off his back was a reflection of his leadership but in the long run it didn't serve him well. Carney isn't being rude or offensive about it, but he isn't going to just ignore disrespectful attitudes either, on his own behalf or on behalf of the nation.
Carney's reaction is delightfully authentic, not only in contrast to Trudeau's bordering-on-pathological tolerance, but simply because it's a more reasonable response to being questioned by anyone LEADING with disrespect, a depressingly common occurrence with most of our mainstream media being owned by conservatives.
The fact that a common reaction from pundits to this "testiness" (that everyone actually LIVES for) is that this non-politician needs to rein in his irritation just shows how pervasive all the corporate media training is.
Irritatingly, every time I hear talk about our "deteriorating political discourse," it's perceived as a rather dismaying but inexplicable phenomenon (kind of like the weather) instead of the deliberate strategy that it actually IS. For some reason, even older people don't seem to remember that this tacky change appeared when the Progressive Conservatives were taken over by the Reform Party. At the beginning people commented on the "bozo eruptions" of what some referred to as "rubes."
It's always been kind of counterintuitive how these "Christian" types are just fine with not only being openly RUDE, nasty and truly mean-spirited, but also so casually LYING.
Exactly! PM Carney is not used to having to dummy down so hard! I thought his original response was enough, but if a Conservative is scrambling for a talking point, this educational moment will do.
Yes, the topic needs a redo. If I was Carney I would come out with the whiteboard and black marker, use single syllable words and draw it out. End with a question, "How else can I help you understand?". I guess that would offend someone....
It was indeed a missed opportunity. He needs to get better to respond to leading / accusatory questions in a way that does not come across as arrogant or hiding information. Use it to explain what a blind trust is, ignore the accusation or ignorant part of the question.
Your suggested response is excellent, an alternative response could have been (and a little bit more confrontational): “Rosemary, why don’t you believe that I have no conflicts of interest, what is the evidence for your statement?”. Barton would have to say something that is not true to make this claim, then respond to the lie by Barton.
The main thing Carney has done is to take away any attempt the Cons can (try to) make about Carney having conflicts. If all they have to talk about is Carney’s daughter (piss on them for that!) it isn’t going to win them any votes.
I would very much like to see an indicator of voter enthusiasm. My sense is that the people who support Carney can’t wait to get to the polls. The Cons support among men in particular is not a good sign for them come election day.
Darn, I had been salivating for a bit of Rosie Barton gossip 😂
But more to the point, I don’t care how much money Carney has - we are LUCKY - someone of his wealth & accomplishments wants to bother running the country & that little échange was good for the PM in terms of how to deal with obnoxious reporters but he’s a big boy and is learning quickly.
Thinking of my outfit for voting day - Should I wear all red or would that be too obvious? I live 2 hours outside of Montréal proper where everyone & their cousin will probably be voting Bloc 🤷🏻♀️
I hope Carney's people will demand that the CBC give him some air time, after the interview they gave Conservative MP Michael Barratt on CBC Radio's News at 6:00. Did the CBC think they needed to defend Rosie, or something? Barratt was so partisan I thought for a minute the writ had been dropped and we were into the campaign...What is the matter with the CBC these days?
Why is The Hindustan Times and the Times of India running stories on Mark Carney's net worth? The Times of India headline reads: Is Mark Carney a billionaire?
Which important voter demographic might be reading these papers?
So how do you get the messaging your proposed and is exactly what Carney needs, into the right ears Evan? This is starting to snowball because of poor issues management. There is not story of they handle the incoming properly.

I agree entirely.

Heard someone on CBC the other day say, "it's better to have an economist learning to be a politician than a politician learning to be an economist."
100%

Oh, that would have been some good political drama!!!

1 hour for me but same. I actually live 2 houses away from the current Bloc MP. Wonder how their polls are going 🤔

Narendra Modi always ready to help Harpo & friends
I’m definitely no expert, but would not Pollievre have to do the same?
Err, well the CBC is a leftist echo chamber, not sure they’ve had to do any serious thinking for decades.
