Only one thing that concerns me here. Harper ruled the CPC with an iron fist. I don't think Skippy can and keep his job. He will have to pander to some of the SoCons in the party and therein lies the Canadian "Trumpism". Many of them have been VERY vocal about banning abortion and restricting women's rights. With what we are seeing daily in the US it's becoming less and less of an extreme policy in people's minds. Look to Ontario where predominantly female professions were the ones wage capped. Ford's voters celebrated it. As you said, Skippy will say or do whatever he can to gain power. If SoCons demand the rollback of women's rights for him to lead will he give in? I believe he will. I think the Liberals best bet is to push reminders of what Conservatives have voted against. Show that the entire party platform is the threat and show the moderate Conservatives that the Conservative party of old is dead and buried.
I think you lived in a bubble if you really believe the Conservatives didn't roll back progress for women.
They pretty much closed Status of Women, shut down birth control grants to developing countries and gave heed to Campaign Life Coalition on a bunch of issues. Just because it wasn't out in the media...doesn't mean damage wasn't done.
But Poilievre is not Harper. He's just an angry dude with no ideas that can't keep his caucus on a leash. Not only isn't he ready, but he's not even fit to be leader of his own party. Hopefully another Liberal minority makes CPC do some real self-reflection.
Another huge point to mention is libertarianism is very limited and takes up such a small part of the Conservatives and why I think the foreign interference was needed to spice up the Conservatives because they needed to adopt something big and bold and to follow the fear of the other and using hate and war and needing an enemy, so the neoconservative and hawkish approach was wanted by the mainstream commentariat. As for social conservatism and fiscal conservatism which means small government and cuts, those are areas the government needs to concentrate on, point out the Harper failures and warn about abortion rights under attack in the US, those Conservatives about 80+ of them who wanted to restrict abortion and even Conservative law and order policies which did not work. Talking about Poilievre's unachievable and outlandish ideas about gatekeepers and linking it to a need for regulations in certain areas is a very important thing to keep in mind. Poilievre will continue to hoodwink, not be ever made to be accountable for his posts and actions, and the government needs to constantly point that out, his lies and everything he does because the media will sure as heck never do that.
Exactly right. Right now PP can freely claim all kinds of ideas of “increasing housing supply by removing gatekeepers” or “getting doctors out of taxis with blue seals”. Ask him how it would work. Demand details. And if the idea has some merit, steal the good parts and improve on it.
Claiming that PP is Trump 2.0 will not get you anywhere. Show who the adults are.
Great piece and I hope those in the Liberal backrooms are paying close attention. This is smart strategy and it's deceptively simple: just be the anti-Poilievre. When he shouts at volume 11, don't shout at volume 12, but point out that Trudeau is the one using his indoor voice, as teachers do. Skippy is thin-skinned and has a bad temper, so point out that Trudeau is the adult in the room. The maturity factor goes a long way. Highlight things like the Thin Blue Line ad and his jaunt to the "Frontier Centre" that promoted residential school denialism, but not in such a way as to shout simplistically "Poilievre is racist!" Rather, that he doesn't do his homework, doesn't look before he leaps, has poor caucus management and lets Lewis, Genuis, Scheer, Findlay etc. lead him by the nose.
What little attempts at policymaking he has made (like his hamhanded housing proposals and this business around medical licensing) are empty, vague, and untenable, so point out how the Liberals are already getting results by working within the system instead of tearing it down. Even show that he refuses to engage with people outside his echo chamber, whereas the Liberals, and Trudeau in particular have demonstrated capability at working across party lines (the NDP agreement and all those deals with conservative premiers). Showing him shaking hands with Ford and even Smith is a great way to get those grumbling Tories on side. Also, Canadians may not vote on foreign policy per se, but are conscious of their place on the world stage, so point out that Trudeau has already been well regarded as a statesman, while Skippy was such a petulant child he boycotted a visit to Parliament by the president of the E.U. (but he had no problems letting caucus members rub elbows with a crackpot MEP). The whole enchilada is about his poor judgment and unstable temperament, so there's no need to match it. I really like this and I hope those who need to read and study it will do just that.

‘Keep It Simple - Stupid’ ..
I often see/read what I call ‘outlandish shit via Media’ & wonder ‘What Penetration ?’
The only ‘Penetration’ that concerns me is - the Awareness - Perceptions - Beliefs - Actions of Canadian Voters
Example - Does the Offensive ‘Daily Shit’ from Poilievre et al have ‘Penetration’ ?
If so.. Is the Result - Positive or Negative .. or just ‘Name Recognition’ aka ‘Branding’ ?
For what ? A bigger share of The Attention Industry .. ie ‘Shelf Space In Our Heads’ ?
“Our Toothpaste Is Better Than The One You’re Using !” blah blah..
Justin Trudeau - like it or lump it - is running a Country called Canada - as Prime Minister
Pierre Poilievre - is running his mouth - as ‘the Smartest Guy In The Room’
.. So what’s really going on re ‘Penetration’ & the ‘Goal’ .. IS IT WORKING - STUPID ?
That’s a YES/NO question.. with seemingly ‘COULD BE.. MAYBE’ the answer ?
Political Polls then TRUMPET the supposed ANSWER..
as the DAILY NEWS - “Read All About It !”
Remember my new age ‘adage’ eh .. after all - I’m a 71 year old freak of nature
Old School Coup D’état - Seize the Palace & Radio Station & the Country is Yours
New School Coup D’état - Seize the Media & the Palace & Country are yours..
Penetration of The Nation eh 🦎
