Completely agree. To be fair, CPC hypocrisy is ubiquitous on every topic imaginable.

There are actually two levels of hypocrisy in the CPC whining about the 2%. Evan describes eloquently the first level. Harper’s dogmatic objective of balancing the budget did not skip the defence budget.

However, there is a second level of hypocrisy in the CPC’s claim. During their time in power the civil service lost a lot of competence in procuring complex projects. Experienced people in the civil service retired or walked out of the door for other reasons (not enough procurement work going on). And building that capability back up is hard, very hard and takes significant time.

The Liberal government has currently funded several defence projects, but the civil service is unable to get these projects procured and properly managed. If they would not be so hopelessly short of people and experience, Canada would actually not have any problem reaching 2%.

Very true.

The history of indecision and dysfunction within the govt and the military would fill a large book. To put it all on the government of the day is ridiculous. Cases in point from times of yore: Avro Arrow, Unification, HMCS Boneventure.

The background to all this is much of this heralded expensive western military equipment sent to Ukraine in the past few months to use in its counteroffensive that was supposed to smash through Russian lines is now lying in smouldering ruins on the battlefield.

“Japan has managed to be the first country in history where a political assassination ended up hurting the party of the dead guy”

It’s weirdly hilarious that the assassin did it to raise awareness of Abe’s support of some real pricks, and everyone seems to have shrugged and gone “Well, he’s not wrong…”

Having read Fred DeLorey’s most recent post.. I’m the sole commenter re NATO Contributions

and did inquire re Poilievre’s ‘Official Policy’ as well as the whereabouts of his Shadow Minister Of Defence

who by Definition Is Also An Elected ‘Public Servant’ & like Poilievre that is Job #1

Whatever happened to ‘The Will of The People’.. you know.. the Riding Constituents !

Can someone point me to Poilievre EVER bringing up NATO Contributions

during one of approx 150 ‘Elect Me’ Election Rallies coast to coast ?

His adoring middle age to senior White Polite Evangelical ‘Vote The Party’ attendees

& occasional Evangelical Persons Of Colour might have valued such discourse

I assume ‘it wasn’t on the War Room’s Radar’.. despite him having captivated audiences

& he only spoke for about 2-3 hours.. and essentially ‘it was all about him’

.. giving them back control of their lives, freeing them from slavery under the Government

& promising them ‘Powerful Paycheques’ ‘Axing The Tax’

& how he bought shawarma with Bitcoin..

PS.. who was that commenter on your previous post re PRIDE ?

Dan something or other who included a substack link to his ‘essay’

.. I just about gagged reading approx 2/3rd of his disgusting rant/essay
