This Liberal party has the same issues as the Democrats. No one is listening unless we are monied and have connections. I am quite frankly tired of it. I had other preferences for the party leader as well. Unless you start offering some meat and potatoes to the average voter, Ford will be premier for life.
I voted NDP last time, in a riding where that can make a difference (although in the end the NDP won comfortably). If the new group is just a vehicle to install Erskine-Smith as leader, I will probably end up doing that again.
An obvious challenge for Ontario liberals is that so much of the most pressing problems are "right wing" coded. Namely
-The need to restart economic growth from 2 decades of stagnancy
-The need to make government much more efficient at spending the money they take in
-Addressing law and order concerns (the Province likes to blame the Feds on this file, but the main issues are clearly within the Province's competency).
-Addressing the regulatory and local government issues that has strangled housing growth.
These are traditionally issues the Canadian public looks to the right to address, but the Province is going to have over a decade of the right being useless on them, so you need to have credible centrist or center left answers. You'll also need to discipline your own coalition about the need to addressing a bunch of right coded issues rather than focusing on any lefty ambitions for their time in office.
“complete and utter hatred I have in my heart for Doug Ford” As a right of centre voter I must say I appreciate your direct honesty.
That said, and know that I am not a big fan of Doug Ford - I don’t think we can put the unemployment or housing problems on the Ford govt. it’s not Doug Ford who piled 5 million plus immigrants/migrants onto the provinces. Half who migrated to the GTA. In fact had it not been for Premier Legault and Quebec - the Roxham Road Hamas welcome centre would still be wide open. This at the same time that any new housing initiative was met with vehement opposition and demonstrations at Queen’s Park in support of the “Greenbelt”
hey Evan,
I like reading your perspective on national politics, but I didn't ask for my private email to be shared with a political party.
Can you please tell your friends at the new leaf party to take my name off their list because their unsubscribe link doesn't work
Agreed.
Here's to New Leaf vs. leaf mould.

Never liked Crombie....comes across as a phony to me.
Would have been happier with Nate.
You guys want a third leadership race in 6 years? Absolutely moronic.
