Keeping Guilbeault generates zero extra votes or seats for the Liberals at the next election. Therefore he will or should be shuffled out of cabinet before the next election.

Having said that, I am not sure that there is anybody in the current climate (no pun intended) who could sell the climate policy and not get attacked by Danielle Smith, Scott Moe and Doug Ford.

I would love to be able to get an honest answer about how this cabinet views itself. Have they really spent the last few years going home every night feeling like they’ve absolutely nailed it, the way their responses suggest? They seem genuinely baffled.

Most current cabinet members are serious and competent people. They value logic, analysis and detailed policy. They believe or expect that good policy sells itself. They probably go home thinking how to improve the policy further (and not how to sell it more effectively).

But of course the world of politics does not work that way. As Evan points out, half of the job is selling the government’s policy and decisions. There are not enough people in cabinet that are very good at this (Fraser, Champagne, Gould) and too many that are absolutely awful at this.

When I read your headline Evan - I was determined to disagree, But your position won me over. Sometimes good players need to be sacrificed for team. We as a country need ,at best, a healthy, well balanced progressive government, mostly because of how absolutely terrifying the alternative is. (I am a former conservative voter). At worst, we need a viable progressive alternative in opposition. This is the moment to ensure that the Liberals are able to accomplish this. It is time to start culling those that are holding them back.

Agree on some levels .. not on other levels

First - you fail to use the Term ‘Elected Public Servants’ as if ‘Politics’ is more appropriate ?

Second - You utilize the Term ‘the Press’ as if it’s homogenized kumbaya nutritious - BAH !

Third - We’ve all seen what the ‘Wood Chipper’ style Toxified ‘Media’ can accomplish in terms of Character Assault as Propaganda Tactic - see David Johnston - savaged by Compulsive Liar Poilievre & other ‘Public Servants’ as a convenient weaponized victim to enthrall Mainstream Media

I respectfully suggest you refresh your understanding of Propaganda - ie look it up via Wikipedia - once so refreshed - start boning up on Fundamental Parasitism - as failure to recognize that both are far beyond RAMPANT in ‘Politics’ as you so quaintly call ‘Governance’ is why Malignant Narcissists such as Poilievre, David Parker, Doug Ford or Danielle Smith are flourishing

More later.. keep up the good work.. apologies for bluntness - but in my ‘perspective’ - why would I tolerate lamprey eels in our watersheds ? Or feral dog packs roaming our farm woodlots ? You want ‘analogies’ ? I got analogies .. but even better - I got real life experience with rabies & with parasites.. & it ain’t pretty. So just try to imagine my outage if some disgusting creep like Poilievre ENDORSES avowed Separatists like Danielle Smith & David Parker & Mainstream Media placidly Sucks Eggs on his behalf..

.. and yes Guilbault - as ‘Messenger’ is now radioactive toast - see David Johnston again !

Spot on, I don't like JT, his cabinet, or his party, but they are the progressive choice. Far better than PP, and yes, I'm a Albertan. I'm wondering, do you have a opinion on how to remove the Take Back Alberta influence on the UCP and politics in general, while we're at it, how to remove the UCP.

man... for someone who dislikes punching left, you've been on an absolute fucking roll for these last few pieces. perfectly said.

the liberals could start polling 40% if they got rid of guilbeault, freeland and jt... the latter two seem like impossibilities at this stage, especially with no clear successors (anand would not change their fortunes by that much), so start with the first.

curious though... who would you peg as a potential (armchair) replacement? nes?

That only happens, and is effective, if they’re displaced by someone with a clear alternative vision. It’s not like you could ditch those three and get much bump if the rest of the caucus is still sitting on their thumbs.

Which of course bring us to the obvious conclusion: Evan for Prime Minister! 😂
