I don’t think anything here is wrong, but I don’t think she has any choice short of ending her campaign. Carney has been shockingly effective at sewing up the lane of being the expert steady hand. The “plucky outsider” lane is the only one available to her. That it’s a bad fit doesn’t change anything.
Frankly, I don’t think a Carney coronation is the best outcome for the Liberal party. It’s too likely to short-circuit most of the introspection and reevaluation they need. And it’s the *party* that needs a self evaluation, not Carney. If everyone else intends to continue on unchanged, swapping him out won’t be enough
But looking at the leadership race, a coronation might be the best outcome actually on the table. No real credible outside voices have stepped up, and something worse than a coronation would be if it descends into farce
Party self reflection was never going to happen after Trump took office and declared economic war to Canada. New policies, fresh ideas, it will all be be drowned out by what is happening south of the border.
If Trump follows through with his threat in the coming weeks, I believe PM Carney will win a majority government at the next election.
Genuinely wonder if she is just staying in the race at this point to offer legitimacy to Carney being crowned in a way that Kamala never got.
Otherwise, I cannot understand who she is trying to appeal to. Not even that she's appealing to a very narrow audience... just straight up I have no idea who she thinks her base is within the Liberals.
The problem with Freeland, whom I earlier supported and defended, is that it is clear she is neither a populist nor anti-establishment, she is the epitome of the Big Red Machine: a corporatist and pro-business entity that serves up identity politics and weak sauce progressivism to placate the Liberals largely centre-left political base. Show me a single econometric report that either the TPP or CETA have helped Canada as a whole!
Has she said a single negative thing about Israel and its genocidal campaign in Gaza? Nothing. Just her endless crying about her precious Ukraine, which is now going to lose the war to Russia via Trump, because her and the effete politicos in NATO don’t know how to execute wars other than slow feeding the American military-industrial complex’s profit motives. That jog (i.e., moronic photo op) in the Latvian forests with Trudeau and Harjit Sajjan must of really scared Vlad!
She is the architect of the post-COVID economy, which sought to “balance” budgets on the backs of citizens suffering from excessive inflation. She is the court jester that tickles Mob Ford and give him billions, while he rips Ontario off for the Mob. Has she or her dimwitted staff said that Ontario Place, the Billion dollar Mob casino (i.e., Austrian Spa), and lack of environment oversight on Highway 413, which no one but the Mob wants, will undermine Toronto and Ontario, the city and province which she ostensibly represents?
How many houses, apartments, or short-term housing units for Canadians suffering from housing unaffordability has she built as Finance Minister? Again, if you couldn’t do it then, you sure as hell won’t do it when you’re PM.
In a time of anti-system politics, where cost-of-living, housing, immigration, job quality, economic and social mobility, and growth amongst the bottom 80% has tanked, are all front issues, which after any short lived honeymoon will still need addressing, electing her is the surest way to defeat.
She’s a terrible public speaker, has no charisma, has connections to Madeline Albright (the child butcher of Baghdad), Hillary Clinton (the immaculate conception of Mango Mussolini), and the entire Davos crew (like Larry Summers, who has got everything wrong in the past 30-years).
In other words, she is a gift to PP and the fascists.

If Trump follows through with all his threats we’re not going to have any more elections
Why might be able to squeeze one election in.
If the polls keep improving for the Liberals, I see Carney calling an election a few weeks after takes over the leadership.

You are not completely wrong in your back sight but completely wrong in foresight…. But thanks for your opinion.
