Charlie Angus has become an unhinged bully and his attack on Margaret Trudeau was sickening. If this is the best option to lead the NDP, the party is doomed to irrelevance IMHO. James Bay/Timmins should elect an Indigenous MP and end his white saviour reign.
The NDP will pay an enormous price for blowing up the agreement with the Liberals. All the Liberals would have to say is that they were negotiating pharmacare with the provinces and the NDP put a stop to that. And unlike the low information CPC voters, the NDP voters will actually understand that these things are complex.
I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said, but my only counterpoint is that Singh *is* a bad leader. He’s constantly shown bad tactics, bad temperament, and a thin skin.
He’s exactly the sort of idiot to autopilot himself into a situation where he either faces massive public and private embarrassment, or needs to force an election. And I can plausibly see him picking the election *even if it’s the wrong choice*.
Very good column as usual. It is also beyond me that the NPD still hasn’t realized that one top policy issue for Canadians now is housing, not Pharmacare.
Not sure about the qualities of Charlie Angus. When he started to rejoice over the death of that lady who was denied a lifesaving transplant because of her vaccination status, he seemed more of a fanatical ghoul than a principled politician.
I wouldn't characterize what he posted as 'rejoicing'. Was it intemperent - yes. Could he have phrased in a less judgemental manner - yes. But the bottom line is there were valid medical reasons she was rejected for a transplant. And I didn't read what he said as an attack on her, but rather an attack on Roman Baber & Pierre Polievre who used her death to bolster their own political aspirations.
