Of course, Gerson is a PP's appologist and following her master by miscountructing the result of polls to spread her propaganda. It's really start feeling like the early Trump period in the Canada when facts and the truth do not really matter anymore.
The fascinating part of last week for me was that the double down was planned in advance. This was not an undisciplined and unplanned response. Poilievre was prepared to defend himself by pointing out it was media reports that made the claim and his staff was even so helpful to find a Canadian press report that however did not quite fit with the timeline.
Somehow his team and himself, after careful deliberation, decided it would be better to go on full frontal attack where a simple admission that it would have been better to add the qualification of “possible”.
Poilievre and his team tend to see everything as an opportunity to attack Trudeau personally. While there may be plenty to criticize, not everything is the result of a devious master plan developed by an utterly incompetent prime minister. Perhaps for now this gets traction when people are frustrated and concerned, but it is hard to see this as an appealing feature two years down the road. If Poilievre wants to attack everything and is prepared to lie about everything to accomplish this, Canadians will eventually see him as unreasonable. And as Jean Chrétien said, Canadians are reasonable, be reasonable if you want to be a leader of Canadians.
That was two bozo eruptions by PP last week. Hos backwards boys loved it and heaped praise on the poor confused guy. Bozo eruptions may become the order of the day over the next two years as the right wing rabble in the CPC caucus try to ape and please their leader.
Bozo eruptions have , in the past, made an impression on the electorate .
in university i had a friend working on the Hill in the staff of a Brian Mulroney minister. i would get all the stories about the current crop of politicians; alcoholics drunk during the day, prostitution on the private floor of the chateau laurier, wife beating, and screwing hill staffers including student pages. all of this was in full view of the hill press but never reported on because it was "personal". here are deeply fucking flawed people who make decisions that can dramatically impact our lives, but we can't learn about it because the press filters. and i just remembered what a camera guy on the hill told me about one Liberal PM, the booze would be so strong on his breath that they had to stand back farther. So not much respect for the press corps and the bad stuff that actually gets out about PP means it's 100x worse in reality.
This is a dishonest hatchet job. Jen Gerson has gone after Poilievre's rhetoric repeatedly and warned that it could cost him the election. Her point is that, right or wrong, the public distrusts the media and is focused on what our government is doing or not doing rather than any irresponsible talk from the opposition leader.
In short, her point is essentially yours: The government is in a freefall which will be as hard to reverse as the freefall of the Liberals prior to Mulroney and the freefall of the Conservatives prior to Chretien. Extraneous factors are irrelevant.
Those of us on the left need to stop focusing on Poilievre's shortcomings and focus instead on the government policies and tone that have alienated virtually every voting demographic. Poilievre getting over his skis based on a Fox News report or going after an unpopular media is a distraction.
To the extent that the left ignores its own faults and goes after journalists like Gerson who merely say what is obvious to any nonpartisan observer, it is the objective ally of the opposition.
.. this seismic event shifted the Public Compass Bearing Perceptions of CANADA where to exactly ? At the same time gotta say - why don’t you strip down ‘A Poll’ like it’s a bootlegger ride with its engine being stripped down - blueprinted.. with all the thanksgiving detroit iron fixins.. & some big mojo suspension voodoo shit (they make movies & songs about this shit.. eh 🦎🏴☠️)
then put the Poll back together.. so nobody could claim ya didn’t
.. because they heard it in the night.. & knew if it was was running true

Good read.
Oh, and Garson and bad-faith argument go hand in hand.

What she said was either ignorant of how Nanos works or she knowingly spread bullshit to make a point
That’s not a hatchet job, that’s reality
