It's an odd thing, but I think Justin Trudeau has consistently been a better PM in times of crisis; it's the everyday stuff where he seemed to continuously find rakes to step on.

I'd agree, but think that more than anything he deserves credit for maintaining the class and composure befitting his position out of genuine respect for it, despite YEARS and years of sitting across the aisle from the smirking, braying intransigence of the no-class cons. A shallower bench has never sat in that place.

He is so good in fights! I wish he stood up to PP more, when he gave that interview outside his bus after cancelling his events, about the rock and safety he was amazing that’s hard to maintain everyday but is amazing when you see it

"For all the genuine risks, America is still a democratic country with enduring majorities for western security and economic prosperity in both the House and Senate."

You say that, but I put it to you, the insane assault on the legislative branch of the USG by one apartheid loving white supremacist suggests that the US is in the very deep throes of no longer being a democratic country with enduring majorities for western security and economic prosperity in both the House and Senate.

I agree. Saw a sign carried today by protesters outside USAID offices, unceremoniously suspended along with the whole agency in what you know is just the beginning of what is going to amount to a coup, as Paul Krugman says. But the phrase on the sign that resonated was "creepy fascists."

Well said!

However, in one month we will be back at this. This time, Trump has a lot less leverage. Having caved once, it is clear that some economically sane people still have influence over Trump.

In the meantime, I would like to nominate Kevin O’Leary for Fentanyl Czar. I think it would be a proper and just punishment for his treasonous behaviour in the past months.

Caveat Lector....the economically sane people toning him down are the billionnaire class. And they will have 4 years to wreak other forms of havoc.

As for O'Leary, I hope I never have see that shit-eating grin of his again in my life.

For sure. If you are a pensioner, middle to low income earner, undocumented, gay, Hispanic looking, you are in for a difficult four years in the US. The billionaire class will not care about you. The billionaire class will care about economic growth, profits and trade, and whether we like it or not, the US economy is what affects us the most in Canada.

Regarding O’Leary, did I tell you that the Fentanyl Czar will be based at the Yukon - Alaska border crossing? Far enough out of sight?

From Terry Glavin from The Real Story: 'And Trump will spend $200 million on Canada-U.S. efforts to curtail drugs and guns and money laundering and gangster-busting, which is what the Americans should have been damn well doing in the first place.'

Trudeau did well in this negotiation.

Never voted Lib in my life. But JT made me proud with his speech the other day when he intentionally made the distinction between Americans and the White House.

On another note, I would like to thank Evan for consistently callling 'em as he sees 'em. Plump lies, and the MSM pussy foot around the facts.

Eg, from the CBC online today: "He (Trump) claimed Canada "doesn't take our agricultural products, for the most part." It's an outlandish statement because the U.S. is Canada's largest agricultural trading partner, according to data from Trump's own government, representing some 57 per cent of Canadian food imports."

Note the phrase 'outlandish statement'. It's not. It's a lie.

so well said! I'm sure I'll be back in your comments in a month as this plays out again. There is much I am disappointed about in Trudeau's record, but he gave this his all and is getting us through it as well as one possibly could.

Re fentanyl, you might check out "Wilful Blindness", a Canadian book on that very subject. Or listen to BC premier David Eby this last weekend when he said he'd also love to get some action on it from Trudeau. I think you're well intentioned but this is an area where you're lacking info.

If Trump did not want a deal, there would not be a deal regardless of what Trudeau said or did so you can congratulate him all you want for not giving away the store, it would not make a bit of difference.

Would we say the same things if it turns out that in order to get this bit of this reprieve , he had to agree not to say too much when Trump invades Panama and pushes to take over Greenland..... The Knee has been bent....... We got a month to line up China.....

Nonsense.

Trump was ALWAYS going to "back down" on tariffs. Look what happened when dingalings shut down the Ambassador Bridge, the massive economic link between Michigan and Ontario: Big US companies got tired of it rather quickly, and soon the US military said to Canada: "You clear the nuts, or we will."

Trudy nearly messed it up, and Trump and Mexico came to a "truce" well before Canada did.

In a month we get to do it all over again, and it is almost certainly guaranteed that Trudy will very nearly mess it up.

Sock Boy. Trudy. How conservative and classy of you. Too effeminate for your idea of a leader is he? So much for women then I guess?

He IS ten years older than Poilievre, but looks ten years younger, and healthier actually. Poilievre already has the beginning of Trump's orange, puffy demeanor...

Carney summed up that whole wannabe rogue, proud boy con style when he pointed out that they simply have no respect. So true, and so tedious. Like all bad boys everywhere, always; time for the real men now.
