Frankly, right now, and until there is major change in the US administration, Trump’s actions and intentions towards Canada ARE THE ONLY THINGS THAT MATTER. The rest, as they say, is just details and can be dealt with later. Canada needs to stand strong (and free) and Mark Carney is the ONLY LEADER who has a chance of leading us through the building, defense, and internal trade, we need to succeed! Carney for Canada!🇨🇦
I think PP’s biggest weakness is that there’s a pretty low ceiling on the actual policy details he can roll out without some wing of his conservative coalition losing their shit. As long as he can keep 90% of this discussion focused on attacking Liberal policies he’s fine, but any situation that forces him to commit to specifics on his own alternatives is a potential land mine
I think you've hit on a very important point here. Poilievre has spent so much time playing to what we're now calling his Maple MAGA base -- apparently about 25% of his supporters -- that he's painted himself into a corner. He can't suddenly be Mr. Red Tory: that's not going to work, especially since Carney the Liberal is pretty close to being a Red Tory himself. (For the record, I don't think that's a bad thing, at this time in Canada's history.)
I think we are going to see more and more desperate attempts by Poilievre to change the channel to affordability, housing, immigration etc.
I am reasonably sure that it will not work, just as we see today. Poilievre has a number of structural weaknesses like his security clearance that he cannot make disappear.
Passing on the Quebec debate is a sign that he's going for the "frontrunner's campaign" strategy, and it is a major mistake. It's likely to be interpreted as disrespectful to Quebecers - the worst thing you can do politically in Quebec.
Indeed! Why pay $75K to speak in French only to please Québecers whose very language and cultural identity, not to mention economy, would be wiped out if tRump tariffs us into submission. Why does Québec require 2 debates when the rest of Canada only gets one? Better for Carney to take the time to speak to all Canadians on how he will stand up to tRump and last I checked, tRump EO'd "English only". Donny certainly doesn't speak French.
Well, the leading story in P & P’s today was the India interference & Pierre’s refusal to get top security clearance (Robert Fife is…).
I watched Pierre’s presser live and imo, it was a wasted opportunity that may play well with his C Proud base but I think it makes him look even more suspicious
Casting aspersions to Carney about his “secret meetings with a Chinese bank” while Carney was chair of Brookfield looked juvenile to me
And the TVA manufactured scandal is just that. Anyone who is voting Liberal in Montreal knows that PL Péladeau is a separatist
There is something in the way a person presents himself, the way he says something and how comfortable one becomes in the presence of himself. Poilievre has had a long time to establish himself as a politician while Carney has been on the world stage in politics and business

Brilliant piece on strategies, but PLEASE Don’t tell the Pollywog how to win!

Carney is doing one debate in French and one in English. He refuses to do a second French debate for TVA. Hardly disrespectful.
Yeah - you're right. My bad. (I mean, it can still be *spun* as disrespectful, but one debate is enough)

We shall see…
Very acute observation. I can only hope that PP and his team aren't reading this...and/or are too dumb to realize how much sense your argument makes.
