If Notley runs, it almost has to be as an end-run around the current executive and party admin. Take her case to the base with an explicit, if probably unsaid, mandate to clean house if she wins.

The Venn of NDP voters, NDP members, and the current NDP leadership is very far from a circle. A savvy candidate could exploit the difference between the people who think of themselves as being the party, and the people who are actually going to decide the leadership race

Notley would be the strongest choice. Hopefully Carney has set a new standard that leaders don't need to be fluent in French.

As much as I'd LOVE to see her run, don't think Notley will be a candidate. She's a person that most people seem to believe when she said she was stepping down to be with her family.

Angus was very smart to resign and avoid the humiliation of losing. The NDP-adjacent "Resistance" tour he did during the writ period probably did more to help local candidates than the actual leader's tour - the event he held in Sudbury drew more people than any event Singh held there in eight years - and there was a genuine enthusiasm and energy in the room even with the NDP at 8% in the polls. He'd be a fascinating candidate but I agree with the difficulty in finding him a seat.

With respect to your comment regarding genocide, we do not need to go there. It is not required to test the exact definition of genocide in this case. It is much “easier” to prove that war crimes have been committed (by both sides). I would recommend reading the charging documents of the International Criminal Court related to current conflict in Gaza.
