Hm. Something told me you were a sports writer Evan....maybe that's why you have blinkers on about Poilievere; you're a sucker for a potential game-changer and/or a "winner."

He's not just GOP adjacent, he's even more pathetic--a wanna-be GOP guy. He might claim to be "pro-choice" and has accepted homosexuality, but stubs his toe tellingly on the trans issue, and his party outnumbers him in their ignorant, backward stance on ALL these issues. Remember Leslyn Lewis's run to LEAD these Preston Manning acolytes FFS, not to mention Maxine Bernier coming very close to doing so.....

Nonetheless, your idea about the abortion clinic is a good one; it'd be yet another attempt to expose the persistent because real "hidden agenda" of the religious zealots who make up a disproportionate number of the Convoy Party of Canada.

Yes you would likely put Poilievre in a bind and maybe Trudeau will raise his favorables a few points but then what, guns? Once Trudeau has shot his wad on those two issues, he still has the no agenda to run on and the same useless front bench.

No agenda to run on. Right, only the one that is seen by many to top any other agenda EVER for all time.....

I guess you're another climate change/science denialist, i.e. a conservative, a.k.a. a "con" who's been successfully conned on all the usual fronts in all the current usual ways.

Clearly you don't follow CBC or question period in the House of Commons where the Liberal "front bench" that includes a Rhodes scholar or two OFTEN speaks and quite cogently, unlike Poilievre's bunch of adoring, trained seals.

I think a vote on the Clinic might backfire. PP is not stupid. Imagine if he voted Yes ! Trudeau would be handing PP a great way for him to be a champion for women. Stranger things have happened in politics. Sorry about you losing your job 😞 I hope something turns up soon. The Blue Jays could use communication help .

here is my prediction. The Trump deportations have multiple bigger benefits to US Corp capitalists. It's going to drive hundreds of thousands to the Canadian border. Our veneer of civility will immediately be torn away and Pierre P will exploit it to win decisively. The end game is to get access of all Canadian resources, especially water. And in the text of our trade agreement, once traded it can't be reduced. Will this be unpopular, yes. But Canadians will discover the unchecked power a politician with a parliamentary majority has.

I have been reading lists of everything the Dems did wrong and all I could think are the parallels to Trudeau. Making a big show on trans rights etc to woke-wash his image while he builds the trans mountain pipeline etc. no green new deal. High speed rail in several locations could have employed the ex oil patch workers etc. But no. The Dem leadership still has not admitted that are the problem (and they won’t fire themselves) and nether will Trudeau.

It is impossible to tell if a Trump administration will help or hinder Trudeau’s election chances. There are so many factors that could change (when does Vance take over, does Trump focus on revenge or golf, does he pick idiotic zealots for his cabinet or more competent right wing apparatchik?). Not clear what we will be dealing with the coming 4 years.

The main thing that Trudeau and Liberals could benefit from is a proper understanding how a rapist with 90+ felony charges could be elected by >50% of the Americans. I believe the Trump voters fall into 2 categories:

1) people who are motivated to make life miserable for other people that they deem unworthy. They are not voting to make their own life better, no, they want the others to be miserable. They love Trump.

2) people who dislike politicians across the board. And Trump does not behave like a politician. Despite being deeply flawed, they are prepared to ignore that. He might be a rapist and sold secrets to foreign agents, but least he is not a politician.

The Liberals cannot pursue people in the first category in Canada. It would be a betrayal of their values, but second category is reachable. Especially because Poilievre is probably even more a politician than Trudeau.

The only way forward for the Liberals, with or without Trudeau, is to become less “political”. This requires dialogue and confrontation. Confrontation with the provinces and dialogue with the voters. Pick the best 5 Liberal communicators and have town halls twice a week each. Give interviews on TV at both political and non-political shows. Behave as little as possible as a politicians. Develop left wing alternatives to the right wing social media eco system. Not easy, but essential if you want to win.

Of course your analysis and suggestion make eminent good (poltical) sense. But if I were Poilievre (which I am not have no particular regard for, other than he is not Trudeau), I would allow a free vote as a matter of conscience. I believe that he could survive this one.
